Colon hydrotherapy, also known as colonics, colon irrigation or high enemas, is a safe way of removing waste and toxins from the large intestines without the use of drugs. The two types of devices used for colon hydrotherapy are the open and closed systems. Choosing which one is best for you is a matter of preference. It’s like choosing between a gala or red delicious apple. They are both going to taste like apples and be scrumptious, yet have their fine nuances that make them different. This is the same for the open and closed system colonic devices.
With the closed-system the client lays on a massage table, disrobed from the waist down, with a sheet lain for cover. A speculum is then inserted into the rectum and attaches to the device. The speculum can be around 1 inch in diameter and 5 inches long, the whole of which must be inserted for secure placement to insure there is no leakage. There are two hoses; a water filling hose and a hose for the evacuation of waste. The closed-system is a manual device controlled by a trained therapist, water enters with anywhere from 1/2 psi- 2 psi (pounds per square inch) of pressure. The therapist controls the pace of water flow and evacuation. Each time the client evacuates the water flow is reversed as the waste moves out through the second tube. If the client should have the urge to push before time, they would need to alert the therapist so they can reverse the water from filling to exiting. There is a very small view window on the mounted wall device if the client wishes to see their waste. Once the session is done the speculum is removed and the client then goes to the restroom to evacuate as much of the remaining water and waste as possible.
The LIBBE open-system is an entire bed made of fiber glass, with a basin cut out in the seat area. The client lays on this bed, disrobes from the waist down, with a sheet lain for cover. A rectal nozzle the size of a pencil is inserted about 1 inch, waste moves around the nozzle. The water flow is gravity-fed through the rectal nozzle which can be stopped as desired or kept as a continuous flow. The pace of the session is entirely at the client’s discretion, with little to no assistance with the controls. Waste is evacuated around the nozzle, into the basin, and down the drain towards the plumbing. There is a 4 foot view tube to the left should the client wish to see their waste for evaluation. Once the session is done the nozzle is slipped out and then a spray hose is used to rinse before moving towards the restroom for clean up.
Whether or not one is better than another is a matter of preference. Closed-system therapist claim to be able to reach further into the 5 feet of the large intestine, I feel this is a matter of opinion. Here at Aqua Lavage Colon Hydrotherapy & Detox, LLC we provide colonic services on an open-system called the LIBBE (Lower Intestinal Bottom Bowel Evacuation). The open-system colonic allows more freedom for the client, which can result in a more effective and deeper reaching cleansing. All wastes in the closed-system must fit through the 1 inch speculum for removal. The size, consistency, mass, and frequency of release is not an issue on the LIBBE. With the closed-system colonic if the client can’t wait to go #1, they have to remove the speculum, get up and go to the restroom. Once the client has returned the speculum must be reinserted, this causes you to lose time from your session. On the open-system the client can go as needed, no time is lost in the session. Although the open-system colonic does allow the client to be left alone, we are committed to each client having the most effective experience. Therefore, therapist stays with the client throughout the appointment encouraging the most efficacy through stimulating peristalsis.
